9 Dots Believes Black Lives Matter
The past few weeks have been enraging, tragic, and exhausting all at once. 9 Dots condemns the horrific death of George Floyd—an unarmed man killed by a police officer—as well as the killings of Ahmaud Arbury, Breonna Taylor and so many others. We recognize these are not isolated incidents. They are the direct result of centuries of deep systemic and institutionalized racism. We also acknowledge that on top of these already profound wounds, the COVID-19 pandemic has a disproportionately negative impact on the health and economic outlook of Black, Latinx, and low-income families.
9 Dots openly opposes and condemns these and all forms of hatred, discrimination, and racial violence—they are unacceptable and have no place in our communities.
It has been core to the 9 Dots mission that we are actively pursuing more equitable futures for the students, families, and school communities that we support. From algorithmic biases that perpetuate over-policing to facial recognition that misidentifies black faces—we know all too well there is a fatal cost associated with the lack of diversity in the tech workforce. Creating access to a quality CS education has always been both urgent and important, but now more than ever it is time to act.
